Even a president understands…

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”    —  Theodore Roosevelt

There are some other great quotes of his at the QuoteDB.

Nightmares.

For the past few nights, I’ve forced myself to wake up from nightmares. I don’t know why they started. Let’s called them the “Red Dawn” series of nightmares. In each case, I’m somehow outnumbered and out gunned by an organized force. In all cases, I’m forced to choose between the kids and the wife to save. So far, I’ve chosen the kids every time. It’s shortly thereafter things get intense, and something realizes the dream is too real. I mastered lucid dreaming as a kid due to nightmares. I force myself awake. My heart is pounding and I’m sweating. And by pounding, I mean 155 beats per minute. I’ve learned to master panic fairly well in my life. In each dream/nightmare, I’m panicking. This is what sticks with me throughout the days. Why am I panicking? Why do I keep having the same variations on a theme in my dreams recently?

Partial answers hit me tonight. I was researching gun training courses at SiGARMS Academy. I don’t know what to do in situations when I’m out gunned. I need to take some courses and develop skills. This will give me confidence and at least a better chance of surviving real world situations. As for the rest, time will tell.

National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007

I try to take things with a grain of salt.  I assume the path to tyranny and evil is by people meaning to do good.  Congress makes lots of rules thinking they’re helping someone (constituents or themselves).  However, now that I’m a regular reader of OpenCongress (this is a story in itself), I’ve noticed patterns.  The 109th “Do nothing” Congress threw everything into a complete imbalance of power.  They passed some hideous laws.  I don’t care if it’s Democrat, Republican, or Moonbat, the laws are just wrong.  HR 5122 and S 2507 authorized some dangerous things.  They also follow the trend of overturning centuries old laws and precedents.  This Act paves the way for martial law at any time as declared by the President.  Perhaps the current President won’t take advantage of it, but the future is up for grabs.   Add to this creeping sense of paranoia the Patriot Act and the proposed Assault Weapons Ban.

If we under a state of emergency, or invasion, wouldn’t you want a bunch of a citizens able to defend themselves?  Relying on the Feds worked so well for the citizens of New Orleans.  I’m sure the next domestic disaster won’t be much better.

H.R. 1022

Read up on the latest attempt to grab your guns with vague definitions of “assault rifles”. A nation of victims waiting to happen. H.R. 1022 is overly broad, poorly planned, and will do nothing to remove gun crime. However, it’s a great way to disarm your populace. It’s a great way to plan for a police state; more so than we already have today. Replace “assault rifles” with “alcohol” and you have prohibition.

Corruption, exposed.

Those pesky details and past archives of emails and conversations get in the way of a cover-up. This is corruption being exposed in your government. We have controls and the means to stop this. Impeachment is one option.

The true test of character….

…is to give a person power. Why bother worrying about the government when your own homeowners association can make you a criminal? Want some goods? I know a place with un-armed homeowners…

Gun Control Laws out of control

I eluded to this in an earlier post. Punishments for breaking nearly any gun control laws are out of whack with the crime. I’m trying to figure out what licenses I need to be able to carry and drive across the country. It’s a damned minefield. I could drive a car with a broken taillight through pretty much any state and at worst, get a few tickets. These tickets may be cheaper than the cost of repairing the taillight. If I carry a nice 9mm on my person at all times, getting pulled over in some states with the wrong license will ruin my life. Worse if the state doesn’t have reciprocity agreements with my licensed state. I mean, really.

I’m a responsible citizen, I gave up my privacy and biometric data so I can own guns in my state. I have zero recorded incidents in ANY government system. Yet, I’ll be treated as if I’m a common gun-running criminal when in a different state. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The US is out of control. Maybe I’ll just carry a sword, pocket knife, and a 30mm wrench for protection. All of those are legal in all states.

Wishy-washy politicians

I’m going to pick on Tom Delay, although he’s only one of the many.  He’s just the most recent example.  There’s a separation of powers in the Constitution for a reason.  If any one branch gets out of control, the other two should be able to reign it back in to control.  I believe the President has lied and spent billions for more lies.  Regardless of my party affiliation, this is grounds for impeachment.  I mean, Clinton had sex in the White House, and he was up for impeachment.  Voting along party lines solely because it’s your party is blind faith.  Back to the point.

Tom Delay is now questioning the patriotism of those that question the President and this war.   Frankly, whether I agree with the war or not, I have the right to protest for either side (for or against).  What’s interesting is his comments earlier in his career about the same issues; when apparently he was on the other side.  This is why we have voting.  I’m glad he’s out.  Now he’s just bitter.

Washington D.C. Gun Control

I believe everyone has read, re-read, commented, and debated the outcome of the Federal Appeals Court ruling on the removal of the DC Gun Control ban.  What will be interesting, over time, is whether crime increases or decreases as a result of armed homeowners.  This assumes the gun ban is lifted and honest citizens aren’t harassed for buying guns for protection.

Do not trust your government!

Yet another example why the government cannot be trusted. This is copied from People for the American Way.

Civil Liberties Advocates’ Worst Fears Realized with Patriot Act Scandal
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Americans learned today that the F.B.I. has been abusing its authority under the Patriot Act to obtain private information about American citizens without judicial approval. So says a report issued today by the Department of Justice’s inspector general.
